“How I Met Your Mother” revolved around the infamous MacLaren’s Pub in the middle of New York City. All of the gang’s shenanigans took place in the bar, but no one ever talked about what they drank! No need to fear, we’ve investigated all of their drinks, talked to our beer experts, and we’ve uncovered which beer each character drank at MacLaren’s.
1. Ted Mosby -- Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale
Ted is not one to shy away from the finer things (and tastes) in life. So it comes as no surprise that Ted would drink Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale. This traditional English-style brew is right up Ted’s alley, and it has a taste of bourbon to make it perfect for him to sip on as he’s telling his children about his grand misadventures from the old days.
2. Marshall Eriksen -- Grapefruit Sculpin
Marshall always had a love for things as sweet as his personality, so of course he would order a Grapefruit Sculpin from Ballast Point Brewing. It’s tangy, sweet, and harbors a touch of citrus so Marshall can hide his love for pink fruity drinks inside of a bottle. Plus, this IPA tastes just like summer, so it’s perfect for Eriksen!
3. Lily Aldrin -- Outlawger
Lily is a strong, confident woman who takes her role as the mother of the group very seriously. But at the end of the day, a girl needs something strong to take the edge off. When Lily hits the bar, she picks up an Outlawger from Local Option Brewing. This German lager boasts the simple and dry aspects of any good German beer, while allowing Lily to get a refreshing brew to end her day.
4. Barney Stinson -- Hopular Kid
Barney is smooth, sweet, and ready to impress, and his beer has to match! Barney can be found sipping on a Hopular Kid while trying to chat up a girl at the bar, allowing the citrus odors from this brew to seal the deal while he enjoys the wheat-aftertaste from this hopular beer for a popular guy!
5. Robin Scherbatsky -- Breakfast Stout
Robin can be stubborn, hard-headed, and difficult, but the girl has a soft side, and Backcountry Brewery’s Breakfast Stout is the perfect way to let her Canadian sweet-side show. This malty brew is perfect for Robin to sip on as she battles with her friends through a game of wits and world play, but also allows her to get the taste of chocolate and toffee after each drink!
