The 5 Best Ways to Stay Warm in Chicago this Winter

The temperatures just keep dropping, and everyone is looking for ways to keep warm during this biting Chicago winter. We have some fun (and tasty) ways to dethaw as Jack Frost takes over.

The best way to warm up is with a piping cup of hot chocolate. Chicago offers up an array of delicious and gourmet hot chocolates, including Mindy’s Hot Chocolate. Made with homemade marshmallows, the Hot Chocolate Bakery offers up 11 different flavors of hot chocolate. Whether you want to mix in white chocolate, espresso, or alcohol, Mindy’s is the best spot to grab this favorite winter drink.

2. Hit the (indoor) ice rink

Instagram has been flooded with snapshots from Millennium and Maggie Daley parks, but you have to be outside in the cold to skate there. Chicagoland offers some great indoor ice rinks available to enjoy when the temperature drops too low. Grab your skates and head on over to the Centennial Ice Rinks in Wilmette and enjoy the winter activity without having to be in the freezing cold!

3. Warm up in the heated Art Institute

Every year, the Art Institute of Chicago holds different holiday exhibits and events. This year the Thorn Miniature Rooms will be decked out in festive gear while their 18th-century Neapolitan crèche wows everyone who comes to see it. Spend a day admiring the exhibits at the Art Institute, take a break and grab a snack at their café, then join in for some of their fun events like Holly Days, which will take place after Christmas.

4. Cold = Soup

What’s a better winter dinner than a big bowl of piping hot soup? Nothing! Chicken soup is a classic for curing those winter blues, and Lincoln Square’s own Gene’s Sausage Shop and Delicatessen serves up a mean bowl of chicken noodle soup that has earned its place on multiple foodies lists. If you’re looking for a tasty way to warm your stomach up, take a trip down to Gene’s and slurp down some soup.

5. The classic Navy Pier

Sure, Navy Pier is usually showcased for it’s fun-in-the-sun activities, but they also have a winter festival going on right now! With more than a dozen holiday-themed attractions and rides, the Fifth Third Bank Winter Wonderfest is sure to please everyone in your group, no matter their age. The best part? The Winter Wonderfest is all indoors! Enjoy a fun, family-friendly winter experience in the comfort of the indoors.

It’s getting chilly outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice warmth for fun. Keep the frostbite away while enjoying winter with your friends and family this year!
